The Age of Rebellion update adds several new co-op locations, reinforcements, and, for the first time since launch, brand new weapons. Instead, it serves as a reminder of the game's wasted potential.DICE today revealed the first batch of new Galactic Civil War content coming to Star Wars Battlefront II.Ī new update for Star Wars Battlefront II arrives tomorrow, bringing with it lots of new content focused on the Galactic Civil War. From the lack of new heroes and vehicles to cutting down on the Supremacy game mode, it was a lackluster final installment to a game that had redeemed itself through multiple substantial updates. Had the DLC been better, it may have lessened the blow of EA pulling the plug on Star Wars Battlefront 2. The Rogue One DLC in Battlefront 2 was a far cry from what Battlefront (2015) brought to the table. There were positives to the update, such as the addition of new classes and also skins, but it still feels like an unfitting end to a game that made a remarkable comeback post-launch. ![]() The Battle of Scarif was introduced to Star Wars Battlefront 2 in April of 2020, the same month that DICE announced it was stepping away from the game altogether, bringing an end to almost three years' worth of updates. It's a shame, as it still had plenty of potential to give, as is evidenced by fans continuing to release free mods for Star Wars Battlefront 2 to improve the game. The Rogue One DLC typifies this wasted potential, as not only was it missing features that made the original 2015 DLC so enjoyable, but also ones introduced with other updates as recently as a few months prior to its own launch. DICE extended this mode from Star Wars Battlefront 2's Clone Wars era content to the sequel trilogy in 2019, but when it came time to introduce it to the Age of Rebellion, the ship phase was completely absent, leading to suspicions that content was ultimately cut as DICE was brought off Battlefront to devote more attention to Battlefield 2042. DICE had implemented a new mode, called Capital Supremacy, which was a twist on the original Pandemic games' conquest game mode, and involved both a ground and ship phase. The Battle of Scarif was also lackluster in comparison to the other DLC that had hit Battlefront 2 over the preceding years. ![]() While the map was much bigger than the one in Battlefront, allowing for more flanking maneuvers for players and sporadic fighting that seemingly mirrored the scene in the movie, there was no unique Infiltration mode and no space phase whatsoever. One of Battlefront's most immersive and nuanced game modes, Infiltration essentially allowed players to play the climactic battle at the end of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, starting with the space battle over Scarif and concluding with the Rebels attempting to smuggle the Death Star plans off-world. It offered a multi-layered experience and added new wrinkles to land and space gameplay. ![]()
